Sneha Ullal joins for Vaanam

Again on Silambarasan. Silambarasan film 'Vaanam' is making the news from the launch date. One of the news was that Anushka refused to do the film with Silambarasan but finally agreed to do an item number. Another was Lingusamy accusing Silambarasan for delaying his film because Silambarasan has started to shoot for ‘Vaanam’ ahead of his film. Another was the debate over if Anushka had refused who will be the heroine of ‘Vaanam’. ‘Vaanam’ is the Tamil remake of super hit Telugu film 'Vedam'

Silambarasan has got his heroine. He has chosen Sneha Ullal to be his heroine in ‘Vaanam’. Sneha Ullal was introduced by Salman Khan in Hindi after he broke up with Aishwarya Rai. The only reason Salman had to launch Sneha Ullal was that she looked like Aishwarya. But her career in Hindi was a flop and so like all drop outs she looked towards south. In Telugu she is doing fairly well. Sneha Ullal is one of the heroines of the recent Telugu box office hit 'Simha' starrig Balakrishna.

Now she is coming to Kollywood through Silambarasan. Sneha Ullal plays the sex worker role played by Anushka in the original. STR and Sneha Ullal will start shooting their portions from July 24 in Chennai.

Bharath joins Vaanam!

Actor Bharath  seems to be a busy man these days. Apart from shooting in full swing for Perarasu's Thiruthani and GNR Kumaravel's Yuvan Yuvathi, the actor has now landed a plump role in the Simbu- Anushka starrer Vaanam, directed by Krish.

The film is a remake of the hit Telugu film Vedam by the same director and had Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu and Anushka in the lead. According to reports, Anushka and Manoj were to reprise their roles in the Tamil version as well, with Simbu playing the lead instead of Allu Arjun.

But actor Simbu, who's in Mumbai, recording for his Podaa Podi, had tweeted, "Manoj is not able to do the role, it's going to be Bharath." Sources close to the unit also confirmed the news saying Bharath will be joining the unit in August.

The calls for multi starrer movies in Tamil are being taken seriously and two young super stars have belled the cat. Silambarasan and Bharath are the innovative young stars who have turned a new leaf in the history of contemporary Tamil cinema.

Bharath has agreed and been signed as the other hero in the recently launched movie ‘Vaanam’ which has Silambarasan playing one of the lead roles. ‘Vaanam’ is the Tamil remake of the much acclaimed Telugu film ‘Vedam’. Apparently it was Silambarasan who had called Bharath to do the role played by Manoj in the original Telugu version. A happy Bharath says he loved ‘Vedam’ and so immediately agreed when Silambarasan called.

With the young guns showing the way will the industry change for the better? Even biggies like Sarath Kumar, Arya have recommended multi starrer films to bring back the people to theatres. ‘Vaanam’ started rolling from last week has Anushka playing the female lead. The film is directed by Krish. Nirav Shah is the cameraman and Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director.

Anushka is not Simbu’s heroine in ‘Vaanam’!

When a lot of buzz is going on Simbu’s new project ‘Vaanam’  which was launched a few days back and also about the heroine who is going to pair with him in this film, there is a new story among some other film sources that Anushka is not the heroine in the film and she is only doing an item number in the film.

‘Vaanam’ is the remake of latest Telugu hit film ‘Vedam’ that has Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu, Anushka, Manoj Bajpai, Lekha Washington and others in the lead roles which is directed by Krish. The Tamil version is produced by B Ramesh and ‘VTV’ Ganesh and will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Sources also say that Anushka first refused to do the same character in Tamil version but Tamil versions requested her at least to do an item number in the film. Anushka who is not interested to that also has demanded the producer’s huge amount thinking of that they will reject her but as they agreed to pay the amount, no option has left for Anushka and agreed to do the item song.

Then there arises a question that if Anushka is not Simbu’s heroine who will be getting that role? Stay tuned for detailed announcements very shortly.

Cable Raja on duty from Today!

Simbu is turning into a cable guy for his new film Vaanam, the shooting for which commenced yesterday in the city.

It has taken Kollywood by surprise as he was to start shooting for Poda Podi in London from the first week of July. In an exclusive interview to CT, Simbu says, “Yes, I have started shooting for Vaanam, which is the remake of the critically-lauded Telugu hit Vedam.”

Vedam, said to be a path-breaking film in Telugu, had Allu Arjun, Manoj Manchu (actor Mohan Babu’s son), Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpai, Anushka and Lekha Washington in the lead. The film follows the pattern set by Mexican director Alejandro Gonsalez Inarritu’s classic Amores Perros (2000) in style, a multiple storytelling format where all the stories converge in the climax.

Simbu felt that the Telugu film would be a viable proposition in Tamil too. Says the star, “I was impressed by it, especially Allu Arjun’s characterisation. After VTV, I thought this role will be ideal as the character has mass appeal. At the same time, multiplex audiences will also love it. I also wanted to do something as my other projects were getting delayed due to various factors and it is almost 145 days since I shot for a film.”

However, the grapevine has it that Simbu is doing the film only because he is smitten by Anushka. Vaanam gives him an opportunity to work with the elusive actress. Simbu smiles, “I have always said that I’m a big fan of Anushka and would love to work with her. I took up the film as the script is good. The A team of technicians from Kollywood — Yuvan Shankar Raja, Antony and Nirav Shah — are working on this project. Also, one of the producers is my friend Ganesh of VTV fame.”

The star has given continuous dates to director Krish till the end of the month to complete his part in the film. And the big news is that there will be a mass kuthu song (not there in the original version) picturised on Simbu and Anushka. The movie will be a ‘quickie’ and release of Diwali. Post Vaanam, the hero will leave for the shoot of Poda Podi and start work on Lingusamy’s film in September.
